The Good News

Colin Head

The same day Colin gots the news
that his arm pit doesn’t have to be scooped out,
his doctor gave him the MRI results.

[On the car ride to the appointment]

Eric: You nervous?

Colin: Yeah…

[uncomfortable silence]

Colin: Heeere’s your sign.

(Bill Engval reference. Blue Collar Comedy Tour. Nevermind)

And anyone who has ever awaited MRI results knows
the closer the day and time gets to your appointment,
the more nervous you become.

Everything was normal routine at first.
Check his weight.
Check his blood pressure.

But, when it came time for blood work,
they called for more than usual.

And Colin thought, “Whats going on?”

The head nurse didn’t stop and say hello when she walked by
and Colin thought, “Oh, no. She can’t even look at me.”
“I’m a dead man walking.”

When you’re this nervous, you read into everything.
He knew that. We talked about it in the waiting room.
You know you are being over analytical.
But you can’t help it.

The Doc came in and set him at ease.

“The tumor is smaller,” he said.

It’s hard to say (for Colin and I) exactly by how much.

Back in November we figured 30 percent by the XYZ coordinates.
This time only XY coordinates were printed.

Confused Colin and I for a bit, but the best we can tell
(without a set of the numbers)

the tumor is 10% smaller than when he was first diagnosed,
which makes it about 50% smaller
than the largest it got before or during treatment.

Hopefully, that makes sense.
If math isn’t your strong suite
just smile and nod.

Oh. And last week Colin broke a rib.
Stay tuned.
