Temodar is Colin’s chemotherapy drug. Its specifically used for adults diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforms.
Chemotherapy drugs work by attacking cells during their reproduction phase or their growing stage.
Cells reproduce by dividing. So one cell becomes two.
This is how 1 sperm and 1 egg eventually become a whole person.
Once you are a full size adult, fewer of your cells are dividing quickly.
They only really need to to repair damage.
But, cancer cells, divide rapidly.
Stage 4 brain tumor cells, divide very rapidly, which is why they grow rapidly.
So, if you can prevent the cells from dividing, you stop growth.
And, if those cells die after the attack the tumor shrinks.
Hopefully, the whole tumor disappears.
The cool thing about this chemotherapy is its oral.
He takes it by mouth.
Every night.
On an empty stomach.
And thats basically it. Simple.
Oh, but we did find that it was a bad idea for him to store his medicine with mine.
I was driving one day and reached into my “bag” and grabbed his chemo by mistake.
I noticed that the pill was a different size in my mouth.
It was a close call.
NOTE: Temodar is expensive. So, I spit the pill back into his bottle.
