South Jersey Derby Girls Benefit

SJDG
Ladies on wheels beat each other up for Colin.

So that statement may be slight exaggeration, but I sometimes write things for sensational headlines.

Our friend Rachel (aka Billy Rae Siren) is a captain for the South Jersey Derby Girls and help raise money and awareness last weekend for Colin. Unfortunately, I could not attend, but I entrusted Colin with my digital camera to document the event.

Raffle tickets were sold and they donated half to Colin. They also put up a display promoting the website and promoting the concert Christine put together for mid November.

Table

Anyone out there trying to raise money or awareness for medical costs think about doing something similar. Jar at gas stations work, but don’t forget about sporting and entertainment events. Especially, since it doesn’t cost you anything except time. And you get out of the house and may get to see the show free. It’s win win win.

Here is what the letter from Rachel said:

www.terminatethetumor.com

Throughout the 5 years I have known Colin, he has become as much of a brotherly figure to me as I have ever known. Colin’s concern and disapproval during some of the most difficult times in my life led me to personal introspection and essentially salvaged what respect and ambition I hold for myself today.

Finding out Colin had been diagnosed with a Glioblastoma Multiforme Stage 4 tumor was initially devastating, but has given me a new perspective of just how strong he is. He and his girlfriend Christine (my closest friend) are two of the most genuine and sound people I will ever know. Though I am angered each and every day to see them going through something so trying, I know they will endure better than myself or anyone else I have ever known.

Those of us, who have been lucky enough to befriend Colin, know that he is personal and often reclusive, which is why I think it so brave of him to have started a blog to document his treatment and share with those who love him and also with those who may be in similar situations.

At 24 years-of-age, eating healthy and maintaining his body and mind is not only something Colin must do daily, but a matter of life or death. Though Colin has strong support of friends and family, it is with help from the community that he will be able to take those extra steps in fighting his cancer. Please donate what you can.

Ever the Arnold Schwarzenegger fan, you may find Colin’s blog at www.terminatethetumor.com. I hope everyone who reads this takes a moment to visit this site to read, watch or donate.

Sincerely,

Raechel Morera

Very Awesome.

This also supports another healthy tip we’ve tried to emphasize:

Recruit help. You can’t do it alone. You should have to.
Now is not the time for pride or guilt.

If ladies on skates want to dedicate throwing elbows and tripping each other at high speed on your behalf, damnit you count your blessing that you have a friends willing to do so!

By the way, if you can visit the South Jersey Derby Girls Here if you’d also like to thank them.

Thanks again Rachel!
