I thought we were in the clear with this.
But now, it is so bad that he’s forgetting to eat…
The first time he forgot was about two weeks ago.
He ate his “budwig” in the morning, but was so nauseous he didn’t want food for the rest of the day until he got home from work. He made himself eat a snack. Then he ate dinner at our aunts house.
Yesterday, after a couple of sips of “the budwig” he felt like throwing up.
(which isn’t a good gauge as far as I’m concerned)
This morning, was the same way.
He said its worse in the morning, likely due to the fact he takes his chemo before bed.
Colin does this so he’ll sleep through the worst of it, but now the nausea is unrelenting.
He’s nauseous all the time.
Keep in mind, nausea is not the same is vomiting.
He isn’t vomiting. He just feels sea-sick or motion-sick.
“Would vomiting help?”
I didn’t ask because persistent vomiting is bad long term.
So I took it off the table.
And, he just informed me that he ran out of his nausea medication today.
However, since it takes 2 hours for it to work anyway, its not a good solution for breakfast.
This is one of the cheif complaints of chemo patients.
The nausea is just irritating after while.
Additionally, it becomes counter productive.
Chemo effects bone marrow, thus white blood cell production.
A decrease in white blood cell production increases risk of infections.
Malnutrition also suppresses the immune system and can adversely affect other bodily functions.
And as we mentioned before, bodily functions are interconnected and interdependent.
And we start the downward spiral. But, not here because I’m here to kick his ass.
“Malnutrition reduces the effectiveness of chemotherapy, lowers overall quality of life and lowers patients’ chances of survival.3,4 Perhaps the strongest evidence, though, is that, overall, the success rates of cancer treatments are significantly better when patients’ nutritional problems are dealt with.”
That was take from this site:
The Doctor Will See You Now
I’m going to work on fixing his nausea this week. I’ll let you know what I find.
P.S. I was searching for graphics for this entry and stumbled upon a website called Rate My Vomit
